Company History

Medinol was established in 1992 by Dr. Judith Richter and Dr. Jacob (Kobi) Richter. It was at that time that the two hallmarks of Medinol were first introduced: our ingenious stent design and our unique manufacturing technology.

Medinol's 1st generation NIR® stent revolutionized the interventional cardiology industry with its flexible closed cell design. This design breakthrough has inspired the stent industry and has been long accepted by many peer companies and manufacturers. The 32mm long NIR was the first coronary stent longer than 15mm in the market due to a great flexibility advantage over other stents available at that time.

Medinol's 2nd generation stent, the NIR® Conformer, set new standards in the cardiology industry with the introduction of various configurations of the stent and the delivery system, including the NIRoyal (Gold plated for improved radiopacity).

Medinol's 3rd generation stent, the NIRflex®, incorporated multifaceted improvements in design, material and manufacturing technology supplying additional flexibility and enhanced conformability to the vessel’s shape, while maintaining its trademark scaffolding capabilities.

Medinol's 4th generation stents are made of Nitinol and Cobalt Chromium. The use of novel material and manufacturing techniques allowed significant improvements in stent flexibility, conformability, scaffolding and fatigue life time.

Today, Medinol’s cardiology stents are distributed by Cordis (a Johnson & Johnson company.
