At this point of the process the stent has already assumed its final 3-dimensional structure, yet its surface it still inadequate for biological use. Optimal surface properties are achieved by applying a proprietary electropolishing process to the stent.
The stents are placed on a designated device which is submerged in a series of chemical solutions and subjected to complementary electro-chemical treatment. This process polishes the surface of the stent to a mirror-like surface and rounds all the corners between surfaces generated during pattern formation.
By the end of this process the stent has acquired both the optimal shape and the optimal surface properties for its clinical purpose. It is at this point that each stent is subjected to the final quality control process.
