After the lattice has been fully inspected and verified it moves on to the next manufacturing phase, in which it is folded to assume a cylindrical shape. This is carried out by carefully engineered devices that ensure a uniform and precise fold.
Once the fold has been completed the stent is ready to be fused so as to create the final 3-dimensional structure. In this part of the process a high precision laser is used to ensure optimal accuracy. This part of the process is handled by highly skilled employees, many of which are engineers, and is aided by advanced visual technology. The LASER fusion is performed in an oxygen free environment in order to achieve uncompromised metal quality. This differs significantly from the heavy oxidation stents undergo when cut by LASER at the highly oxidative environment required for cutting.
